ExCEL Award Program

SACU and KENS 5 joined together in 1999 to recognize and lend support to San Antonio area educators. This partnership came to be known as the ExCEL Award which celebrates innovation in education. Since then, one teacher from each area school district is recognized annually with a $1,000 check from SACU and a KENS 5 news feature on the difference he or she is making in public education. We’ve honored nineteen of the area’s finest educators with awards totaling $19,000 each year for 16 years, and counting.

Bridge for U Scholarship Program

We believe that members’ success yields community success. For that reason, we created the Bridge for U Scholarship program for members and their families. SACU members, their children and grandchildren currently enrolled, full-time, in an accredited two-or four-year college or university are eligible. Yearly, a $3,000 scholarship is awarded to up to seven SACU members.

San Antonio Spurs/Silver & Black Give Back

SACU is proud to be the official credit union of the San Antonio Spurs since 2002.  Like the Spurs we believe in improving and strengthening our community.  We have united in support of education by presenting the Spurs Family Calendar.  Proceeds benefit local charities, including Silver & Black Give Back, whose mission it is to engage young people to enrich their communities.  SACU is also the financial literacy partner of Team Up Challenge, a youth-led service learning program for students.  During the school year, five Champions are awarded $20,000 for their community initiatives.

UTSA Roadrunners

SACU is the official credit union of UTSA Roadrunners, bringing together our shared expertise and commitment to education. Partnering with the Alumni and Athletic Associations since 2012, we back a variety of on and off campus programs that support academics and scholarships, as well as events which unite students, alumni and the community in support of UTSA’s efforts to become a Tier 1 public university.
