Heather Sanders is Setting Records in Comal County

Heather Sanders was presented with the KENS 5 Golden Apple ExCEL award in front of a packed crowd of her calculus and volleyball students. Sanders originally planned to have a career in accounting. While she was getting her MBA, her love for volleyball and an interest in teaching caused her to re-think her path, and the students at Canyon High School are grateful.

"She’s just been an inspiration to all of us. She brings out a drive that most people can’t, and she’s just amazing," said Courtney Bird, a senior on the volleyball team.

Sanders has taken her girl’s volleyball team to the playoffs every year she’s been head coach, and her record in the classroom is equally impressive. 100 percent of Sander’s students passed the TAKS test last May.

Sanders is a role model to everyone around her; so much so, that 10 of her former students are becoming teachers. Now that’s a winning streak that can’t be beat!
