Gloria Schuetze is a "special" teacher for special students in Edgewood ISD

Gloria Campos Schuetze, special education teacher at Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary in Edgewood ISD, is truly special herself. She provides resource classes for special needs students as well as works with them and their peers in the regular classroom as part of inclusion teaching. She also provides content mastery classes for students in the same grades.

At the same time, she also is the campus Lead Gifted and Talented teacher. She provides pull-out classes for the GT students where they work on enrichment projects such as soda bottle rockets. She is also the Robotics club sponsor.

Asked if she can teach the same material to these diverse groups successfully, she said it was all in the style of teaching. Sometimes she has to repeat or explain something in a different way to help each child understand. You have them repeat it back to you to be sure they comprehend the concept. She knows how students feel when they struggle. She was a student who struggled in school, and she tries to encourage them by teaching them how she was able to learn and succeed.

Ms. Schuetze has a passion to bring out the best in each student and help them realize their true potential. She doesn't allow any student to get by with the minimum effort. Her students say she works hard to get them up to standards. She wants to be sure students of all abilities can experience enrichment activities that stretch their minds.
