Donna Colglazier Puts Her Whole Heart into Teaching Randolph ISD Students

When Donna Colglazier signed on to teach, she was determined to put her whole heart into teaching her Randolph High students. As a former military dependent herself, she understands the unique situation that her students experience, because many of them have parents deployed overseas in a war zone, or at least separated from the family. Children in families whose military parent is retiring have great adjustments to make as well.

Her administrators and co-workers attest that she is in her classroom, early and late, helping each child reach his or her personal best. Many of her students have traveled the world and have more of a global perspective on life. She has incorporated voices in her English curriculum that represent the views of many cultures, realizing that our military represents the many faces that define an American.

Ms. Colglazier incorporates a high level of technology, and her students use their laptops in her English classroom, doing research on the Internet. She attributes her efforts in keeping up with advances in technology as a way she has grown as a person. She says she found her niche in teaching high school students, and the experience has exposed her to works and perspectives that she might never have known. Fortunately, she is passing on the wonder of being a life-long learner to her students.
