Darlene Cox Starts Her Young Students Off Right in South San's Hutchins Elementary School | ![]() |
Darlene Cox decided to be a teacher when she was in the ninth grade, and she has never regretted her decision, 36 years later. For 23 of those years, she has worked diligently to prepare young lives in South San Antonio ISD for their future educational success. She has taught first and third graders, and she currently teaches first grade. She will never give up on any child, and she prides herself in using diversified teaching methods to meet each child's learning style.
Ms. Cox says that her greatest reward in life is to have former students come back to her classroom to let her know the difference she made in their lives. They will have just graduated from high school or college, and they take time to share with her their successes. It goes without saying that she not only loves teaching but loves her students. But that doesn't stop her from saying it frequently!
She also is a mentor to observing and student teachers in the South San Antonio district. Veteran of many workshops and seminars - plus many that she has taught herself - she has skills that include teaching the gifted and talented and teaching behavior management. She has many honors and accolades as a result of her contributions. She collaborates freely with her fellow educators and believes communication between administrators, teachers and parents creates a partnership that is critical to a child's education.
