SACU brings our own "Oscars" to schools in San Antonio with the Golden Apple trophy, made by the company that creates the Oscar for the Academy Awards.  SACU is proud to present the 2009-2010 ExCEL Award program for the 11th year with its partner KENS5 television. SACU and KENS TV concluded a decade of celebrating excellence with a banquet at the Club at Sonterra, hosting all 19 of the 2008-2009 winners, their guests, district superintendents and school principals. Since 1999, the ExCEL Awards have brought the Oscars to San Antonio and helped teachers walk their own red carpet in special school assembly programs. SACU and KENS TV have recognized 190 public school teachers in the Greater San Antonio area with a Golden Apple trophy, manufactured by the company that makes the Oscar trophy for the Academy Awards, and a check for $1,000. An SACU representative presents each teacher with a check during a program at his or her school, with KENS Anchor Deborah Knapp presenting the golden apple and officiating at the ceremony. That same week KENS TV airs a special feature on Thursday Eyewitness News at 6 with video of the teacher, the students and the school, focusing on the good things that are happening in our schools every day! SACU posts biographical information, linked below, and photos of each winner in all San Antonio branches. Watch for the programs which air on Eyewitness News at 6 PM, beginning in September 2009 and continuing approximately every two weeks through April 2010.
