SACU Announces the SACU Bridge for U Scholarship

SACU is proud to announce the kickoff of a unique program, the SACU Bridge for U Scholarship, designed specifically for members who have completed two years of community college and have been accepted at a 4-year college or university.

In celebration of the announcement of the program for the 2009-2010 academic year, SACU plans to award up to 14 scholarships to qualified full-time students who are also members in good standing at SACU for a minimum of one year. Each scholarship will be for a total of $3,000, payable in two installments, at the beginning of the fall 2009 and spring 2010 semesters. The cooperative is also committed to ongoing support of a scholarship program in the future.

Applications for the program and details about qualifications are available at sacu.com by clicking on the NEW icon on the home page. Applications must be submitted by U.S. Mail with the postmark deadline of May 10, 2009. Names of the scholarship recipients will be announced in June 2009.

"SACU planned this new scholarship program to 'bridge' the transition for students who have already shown determination and had success in completing a 2-year associates program at a community college," Jeff Farver, president and CEO, said. "The scholarship recipients of SACU#39;#s program will be students who are primed for success in completing a bachelor's degree at a 4-year college or university. SACU wants to be there to support their move into the next stage of their education."

SACU has always supported a broad range of educational programs in the community, including 10 years as co-sponsor for the ExCEL Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching. SACU also supports the High 5 Readers program with the Spurs Foundation; endowments at UT San Antonio, UT Health Science Center and University of the Incarnate Word; the SA Stock Show & Rodeo sponsorship, which raises money for scholarships; a mentoring program for students in local schools; and an employee tuition reimbursement program. SACU donations help support scholarships provided by Junior Achievement; the La Prensa Foundation; League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC); the Partners in Education Foundation; San Antonio Youth Literacy; and numerous others.
