Mrs. Christy White Leaves "Heartprints" on her Students | ![]() |
A gymnasium full of excited students cheered for Mrs. Christy White as she accepted her ExCEL Golden Apple Trophy from Deborah Knapp. But the best gifts of the morning were the handmade heart-shaped cards her 2nd grade students gave to her. Each card contained a personal sentiment from the student explaining how Mrs. White had touched his or her life.
Christy White teaches the importance of leaving "heartprints" - the impression left behind by a deliberate act of kindness. This is especially important in a school where parents are often deployed. "Sometimes they need extra time and they need extra love and something special for a day if they're not feeling so good," White explained.
White has spent the last 34 years using her special blend of love and structure to bring out the best in her students, creating a positive learning environment. "Every year it's exciting, new, and a challenge; but the passion is always there!"
