Rebecca McHazlett Makes Winning a Family Affair in Medina Valley ISD Picture of Rebecca McHazlett

Rebecca McHazlett is no stranger to the ExCEL awards; her husband, Dwight, won the award for the district for the 2006-2007 school year at Medina Valley High School. Now it's her turn and it seems excellence is just a way of life for the McHazlett family.

As a 5th grade teacher and grand-level department chair, Mrs. McHazlett keeps busy at Potranco Elementary. Oftentimes, her two sons stay late with her as she prepares lesson plans and grades papers. She is a shining example of dedication to her peers, students and family.

In fact, it was her aunt, Karen Crain, who originally inspired Mrs. McHazlett to become a teacher. McHazlett saw first-hand how a positive spirit and a love for children are the core traits of a good teacher.

She exemplifies these traits as she nurtures her students with her caring spirit and Potranco Elementary is a better place because she is there.
