Students mean the world to Catherine Rogers at Randolph Elementary School | ![]() |
As a military "brat" herself, Catherine Rogers knows the challenges that military students face. Rogers goes above and beyond the usual five day work week, often times spending her Saturdays watching her students participate in baseball games, gymnastics competitions and attending their birthday parties. This extra attention makes her students feel valued and they are eager to learn.
"At a military school you may see them for half a year and they're gone or a full year and then they move. So the one year you have with them is the year that you get to develop your relationship with them. Here the one precious year you get with them is the one you need to cherish and take advantage of," Ms. Rogers said.
Her special brand of compassion and tender instruction demonstrate her commitment to her kids. Everyday her students get to choose a hug, handshake or high five as they leave the classroom. And most choose all three – they just can't get enough of Ms. Rogers!
