By shredding almost 148,000 pounds of sensitive documents, SACU and its partners helped San Antonio residents save more than 1,250 trees or 17 trees for every ton of paper shredded. Sponsors with SACU were ARMA of San Antonio, WOAI News 4 and four commercial shred companies: Marshall Shredding, Iron Mountain, recall and Cintas Shredding.

During the four-hour event held at nine SACU branches, more than 2,400 people took advantage of the free shredding service and donated more than $3,500 to benefit San Antonio's Dress for Success® program, an organization dedicated to helping women gain skills to re-enter the workforce.

"The material our citizens brought to shred will go into the recycling process to make paper towels and toilet paper, rather than contributing bulk to our overcrowded landfills. In addition, we realize many people don't have access to shredding services. With ID Theft growing every year, we can help people safely dispose of sensitive documents and educate them about protecting themselves,"said Chris Jacobs, SACU first vice president and ARMA board chair.

Members of the community who were unable to take advantage of this service have other options, thanks to shred companies in the area. For those wishing to do a one-time shredding, Marshall Shredding now offers a drop-off service for sensitive documents.
