Misti Lucius shares her love of teaching with Somerset ISD students and peers | ![]() |
Misti Lucius has been a teacher for sixteen years, all in Somerset ISD, and she teaches her fourth grade students at Barrera-Veterans Elementary with creativity every day. She mentors new teachers and shares her ideas freely with other grade-level teachers.
She brings technology into her classroom and her focus is on having her students use it daily. Their projects integrate technology into the lessons, where students create commercials and their final reports are videotaped. In between the beginning and final product, students write scripts and edit each others' work. Many of the final video projects are shown to the school in morning assemblies.
Ms. Lucius creates many adaptations of materials to teach her students so that everyone is able to master it. She cooperates with the instructional technologist to design her units, and while some students are working in the computer lab, others are working on non-technological parts of the project, doing research or writing and editing scripts. Besides being the grade level lead teacher and Gifted and Talented classroom teacher at Barrera Elementary, she works with the other elementary school to be sure that the instruction is being consistently taught to all students in fourth grade throughout Somerset ISD.
