SACU brings our own "Oscars" to schools in San Antonio with the Golden Apple trophy, made by the company that creates the Oscar for the Academy Awards.
SACU and KENS 5 TV kick off the 13th year of the ExCEL Award Program
SACU and KENS 5 kicked off the 13th year of honoring excellence in public schools for the 2011-2012 school year. Since the program began in 1999, the organizations have recognized 228 teachers with a "Golden Apple" trophy and a check.
Each year the program honors teachers, beginning in September. Approximately every two weeks, SACU and KENS presents an educator with a Golden Apple trophy made by the company who creates the Oscar for the Academy Awards, a cash award for $1,000 and featured airtime on Eyewitness News at 6. A total of 19 teachers from public school districts in the greater San Antonio area will receive this honor.
As part of the ExCEL program for the coming year, beginning in September 2011:
 On Kens 5 television's Great Day SA morning show from 9-10 a.m., your credit union will present SACU Piggy Bank Tips to help parents teach children about handling money and managing finances.
- ExCEL winners will be featured at the end of each month on a Great Day SA program.
- Viewers can post a tribute to teachers who have influenced their lives as a result of their outstanding teaching. Go to KENS5.com, Great Day SA, and click on "Recognize your teacher."
